Apologies for the clickbait article.
First of all, in the last few weeks, I see my homepage being inundated with all these articles of the “n” ways to do things and it sounds so obvious that people determine the number and then decide on the “ways”. Well, we cannot blame them, can we? Ever since the “Seven habits of highly Successful” people, we have been fascinated with these magical steps coming from numbers and ways to follow them to be successful, happy, get rich etc. Now, with medium, we have created one more layer here, “N” ways to increase your follower count, or N ways to make people follow you.
Aren’t we all missing a point here? Medium is a powerful tool to express your voice, your story, your experiences. Its wonderful for you to write down your thoughts, your ideas and then be able to reach a wide spectrum of audience. Channel that inner voice and tell the stories! Don’t waste it on creating marketing flyers and catchy title names to get audience click onto your article and make a few pennies. Or a few dollars. If money making is the motto, then drive an uber, signup for upwork or work at a grocery store. You are going to make more money there than on medium! And believe me, the effort to get an audience, get them to read your stories and then get those viral is a lot more effort than the money you gain from those articles.
I might be construed as ranting here and each to his own could be the motto, but I would point out the big picture here: medium is a wonderful way to share our stories and not some simple hacks or steps to achieve things. And if we still insist on not listening to this advice, well, I’ve a news for you: ChatGpt is going to create those steps with much lesser effort and is going to be more successful. So, we only have to bank on our own experiences and our own lessons to codify the steps and then we can create our own personal voice and motto.
