I honestly don't buy this theory. IMO, this comes down to realizing that team productivity has not been as great as it has been touted and there have been enough instances of employees moonlighting and taking second jobs.

Companies felt they couldn't trust employees and hence they decided to bring back the hybrid and return to office model.
