Another reason to add: Enough people vent about bad managers but not enough appreciate good managers.

It's like the reviews we find on Amazon. people come there to complain about bad products but very few come there to review good products.

Unless engineers and anyone who has a manager doesn't speakup, we have created a system where managers are rewarded for how they manage their bosses and the output they show and not based on how they grow people in their organization.
